Trauma

I provide compassionate, impactful, and seasoned support for those affected by traumatic life events.

My approach to trauma – body based trauma focussed psychotherapy

I take a bottom up approach to working with your trauma. Healing trauma is holistic: trauma isn’t a solitary experience that only affects the mind—it impacts the body, too. My healing-centred approach recognises the collective nature of both trauma and the healing processes involved. You can find more information about bottom up and through the side door approaches here.

Having a trauma-informed lens can also be helpful for people who’ve experienced other kinds of challenges, like chronic pain and sexual concerns. Because trauma, pain, and sexual issues can also be interlinked.

My guidance working with trauma

I prioritise you above all else. Every step we take together is based on your intentions and choices, and what you’re comfortable with.

When it comes to working with trauma, I use a variety of modalities, and guided by the BlueKnot Foundation’s Practical Guidelines for the Treatment of Complex Trauma. These guidelines were developed in Australia, and have the endorsement of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD).

Typically, I use a three-phase approach when working with clients who have experienced trauma. These phases are: safety and stabilisation, processing, and integration. It’s a gentle and graded approach to working with trauma that makes sure you are safe and comfortable above all. You can find out more details about phased trauma therapy strategies here.
